OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION

  • Background The UNESCO Amman Office is implementing a project entitled “Sustaining Quality Education and Promoting Skills Development Opportunities for Young Syrian Refugees in Jordan” in order to provide support to the Jordanian Authorities to mitigate the impact of the Syrians crisis by: i) addressing qualified teachers' gap in class management techniques dealing with trauma affected children in large size classes, in coaching strategies for teacher trainers and counsellors in emergency situation; ii) offering demand driven informal and non-formal education programs and skills development opportunities to Syrian and Jordanian vulnerable youth; and, iii) contributing to resolve information gaps for the ministry of education to be able to better plan its response in the provision of educational services. Furthermore the UNESCO launched the “Quality Universal Education for Syrian Students and Teachers” (QUESST) initiative as part of UNESCO’s regional education response strategy to the Syria crisis, entitled “Bridging Learning Gaps for Youth”. The ultimate aim of the project is to improve the quality of teaching and learning, provide access to higher education and improve its quality in the region through country-level interventions, and strengthen national capacities for a resilient education system in Jordan. II. Duties and requirements Under the overall authority of the Director-General of UNESCO delegated to the Head of the UNESCO Amman Office, and the direct supervision of the Education Programme Specialist and in close cooperation with the Senior Project Administrative Assistant, the incumbent will undertake the following duties and responsibilities in support of the Education program: - Assist in organizing appointments, meetings, activities and missions for project officers working under the Education Program; - Coordinate the logistic aspects of various activities for the Education Program in coordination with technical staff. - Prepare travel arrangements to Education staff, external consultants and UNESCO’s experts including flight and hotel bookings, transportation, visa, travel authorization and any other requirements as needed.
  • Follow up with the Admin and Financial Platform on issue related to the office maintenance as requested by the Education staff members. - Assist in preparing minutes and administrative documents (contracts, procurement, memos, official correspondence etc.), as needed; - Assist in the financial aspects of activities by preparing documents for processing payments - Review, translations and summaries of various documents prepared by UNESCO staff members or other partners. - Assist to organize, coordinate, and attend workshops, seminars, field visits, and meetings relating to the projects as needed; - Ensure a suitable, efficient and updated information and filing system (including an electronic system) for all materials under the Education program. - Print, scan, and photocopy all documents required when needed; - Execute other tasks as requested by UNESCO Representative and UNESCO Education staff.

  • REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • EDUCATION - University degree in business, public administration, or other relevant field.

  • WORK EXPERIENCE - Two to four years of relevant professional experience in administrative and program support for development and humanitarian projects.

  • SKILLS/COMPETENCIES - Drive for results; - Computer Skills: including internet navigation and various office applications, such as Microsoft Office; - Ability to work under pressure; - Adhere to rules and regulations; - Strong planning and organizational skills; - Ability to work accurately; - Learning and researching.

  • LANGUAGES - Knowledge of the local language is a must. - Fluency in written and spoken English is required.

BENEFITS AND ENTITLEMENTS

The candidate shall be offered a Service Contract with a net salary of approximately 11,880 Jordan Dinars per annum. The initial contract, which is for 6 months, is subject of satisfactory service for a probationary period of 3 months, and contingent on the availability of funding. UNESCO DOES NOT CHARGE A FEE AT ANY STAGE OF THE RECRUITMENT PROCESS Other benefits include 2.5 days annual leave per month
