OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION

1. Background

The UNESCO Amman Education Unit is committed to work in the field of education by increasing equitable access to education, enhancing quality of education service, and supporting educational institutions to enhance capacity in educational policy planning. In that context, Education Unit is implementing a project entitled “Enhancing Access to Secondary Education and Quality Results for Youth Affected by the Syria Crisis (EASE)” in order to scale up teacher training for teachers on interactive pedagogy, psychosocial support, and others. Furthermore, the UNESCO launched the “Quality Universal Education for Syrian Students and Teachers” (QUESST) initiative as part of UNESCO’s regional education response strategy to the Syria crisis, entitled “Bridging Learning Gaps for Youth”. The ultimate aim of the project is to improve the quality of teaching and learning, provide access to higher education and improve its quality in the region through country-level interventions, and strengthen national capacities for a resilient education system in Jordan.

II. Duties and requirements

Under the direct supervision of the Head of the UNESCO Office in Amman and the Education Programme Specialist from Education Unit, the incumbent will undertake the following duties and responsibilities to Assist the Project Officer in the implementation of the project by:

  1. Providing technical, administrative and logistic support in the implementation of the project activities, including:

  2. Liaising with project beneficiaries and project partners;

  3. Organizing training activities and events;

  4. Drafting web articles and press releases;

  5. Drafting briefs and reports;

  6. Organizing missions (including the preparation of travel documents);

  7. Drafting official correspondence;

  8. Preparing minutes;

  9. Assisting in the preparation of contracts and other administrative documents;

  10. Payment processing;

  11. Translating from Arabic to English and vice-versa.

  12. Undertaking missions to the field, as required;

  13. Providing assistance as needed by the Project Officer for overall programme implementation; Carrying out any other duties requested by the Head of Office

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Degrees in the field of management and administration will be considered as an asset.

Work Experience

  • A minimum of 2 years of professional experience. Experience in the field of project administrative support will be considered an asset.

Skills/Competencies

  • Ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.);

  • Organized and flexible;

  • Able to work in a multicultural environment.

Languages

  • Fluent in English (spoken and written); Fluent in Arabic (spoken and written);

BENEFITS AND ENTITLEMENTS

The candidate shall be offered a Service Contract with a net salary of approximately 15,864 Jordan Dinars per annum. The initial contract, which is for 6 months with the possibility of extension, is subject of satisfactory service for a probationary period of 3 months, and contingent on the availability of funding. Other benefits include 2.5 days annual leave per month.
