How the Services Manager fits into the Integrity team
The Services Manager will be a mid-level, technical and management role at Integrity, working primarily on Research and Monitoring & Evaluation projects.
The Services Manager (SM) will sit within our Directorate Services (D/Services) which leads the design and delivery of our work. The SM role includes responsibilities in project management, technical delivery, business and proposal development, and wider institutional learning. The SM will work flexibly across Integrity’s different services and directorates and be attracted to a fast-paced working environment.
Your role will be based in London and you will report to a Senior Manager in Directorate Services. You will also work with Directorate Business (D/Business) to design new projects, manage consultants and build relationships with key partners and institutions, and Directorate Operations (D/Operations) on matters relating to duty of care, risk management and project support.
The Services Manager’s Scope of Work
The Services Manager role is a varied one, including project design, delivery and learning.
You will also play a major role in the delivery of contracted projects. In the first year, you will particularly focus on delivering high profile research, evidence and analysis work for UK government.
This will include conducting primary and secondary research and supporting the analysis conducted by sector experts. You will also have the opportunity deploy on short-term assignments to countries where ODA is spent. As well as research and analysis expertise, you will also draw on project management and coordination skills as well as the ability to liaise effectively with senior stakeholders and team members.
You will also support the technical design of bids for research and MEL projects for clients including DFID, the FCO and USAID. This includes developing appropriate and innovative approaches and methodologies to meet the needs of our clients and writing technical proposals. Key thematic areas may include security and justice, humanitarian aid, education, health and private sector development.
In addition, you will also support the consolidation of good practice within the company and take on line management responsibilities for more junior staff members.
Terms of Reference
A. Technical Delivery (40%)
The Services Manager will support the delivery of Integrity’s work across the geographies and thematics in which the company operates. You will:
- Engage with the client and senior stakeholders to understand and translate requirements.
- Provide technical inputs to contracted projects, including designing research and MEL frameworks and data collection tools, undertaking key informant interviews and secondary source research, data analysis and report writing.
B. Technical Design (20%)
The Services Manager will support the design of technical approaches on new business development opportunities. You will work across Integrity’s Directorates, and with Directorate Business in particular, to develop market leading approaches. You will:
- Support technical design processes including writing technical proposals.
- Enhance Integrity’s approaches and methodologies, with a view to promote innovative practices and position the organisation as practice/thought leader.
- Identify new consultants with the appropriate technical, management and thematic skills to deliver Integrity’s growing portfolio of work.
- Support efforts to identify new business opportunities.
- Develop and update thematic and technical brochures that demonstrate Integrity’s capacity and expertise for internal and external dissemination.
C.Project Management & Coordination (30%)
The Services Manager will perform project management functions where they are responsible for quality delivery, on budget and on time, and for maintaining client satisfaction. You will:
- Ensure adherence to company delivery processes.
- Manage day to day client and consortium contract management.
- Manage and coordinate internal and external project teams, including senior external consultants, on a day to day basis.
- Plan and manage work flow, including internal resource requests.
- Manage the production of project deliverables, delegating as necessary.
- Manage project level risks, escalating as appropriate.
- Oversee operational and logistical arrangements for the project, as provided by Operations Team.
- Manage project finances.
- Manage internal and external communications on the project.
- Ensure quality assurance process is followed.
D.Thought Leadership and Learning (5%)
- Enhance Integrity’s approaches and methodologies, with a view to promoting innovative practices and positioning the organisation as a practice/thought leader.
- Share knowledge gained through project delivery and wider experiences with the internal team.
E.Staff Management (5%)
- Line and performance manage colleagues at officer level and below.
Your Experience
It is essential that you have:
- 2-6 years’ experience working within the international development, research and/or the consultancy sector.
- Experience working on the design and delivery of research and/or M&E projects.
- Experience managing teams of staff and consultants for the successful delivery of projects.
- Excellent written and verbal English.
It is desirable that you have:
- Experience in some of these sectors: governance, conflict, economic development, health, security and justice, humanitarian aid, education and private sector development.
- Experience of undertaking political economy analysis.
- Working with DFID and/or FCO.
- Working in FCAS environments.
- Written and Oral Fluency in French and/or Arabic desirable.
- Software expertise, e.g. Microsoft Excel, Access etc.
- Qualitative and Quantitative research methods.
