Your Place in the Integrity team
The Business Manager will be a management role at Integrity, providing internal and external management of Integrity’s business development, account management, consultant management, and marketing and communications. They will play a key role in driving new bids and proposals, expanding our network of experts and consultants, liaising with a range of partners, clients and sub-contractors and growing Integrity’s brand and public persona.
You will work closely with our Head of Programs in the DC office to oversee a growing 20+ project pipeline that includes several prime, multi-year projects across the world. These include USAID MEL platforms, research projects, M&E assignments on implementation programmes and work for other donors including DoS, DFID and the World Bank.
Your position sits within our Directorate Business which leads the organisation’s strategy and execution of business development, account management, consultant management and marketing and communications.
Your Scope of Work
You will work closely with colleagues across Directorate Business and with technical experts from Directorate Services to drive the design and submission of best-of-sector bids and proposals, to staff projects with the best and most appropriate team members and to expand our network of key consultants and build relationships with key partners and institutions.
Integrity is hiring a Business Manager (BM) to develop its growing portfolio of work to the US Government. The BM role offers an experienced development sector professional the chance to lead on business development, proposal development, and contribute to business strategy across Integrity’s global portfolio. In addition to winning business, the BM will also be responsible for managing key client accounts and supporting commercial proposal and strategy development for the US market. The successful candidate will engage in initiatives related to effective consultant management and marketing and communications. The BM will be managed by the US Office Head of Programs and may manage relevant team members depending on future team growth. The position will be based in Washington D.C. with international travel as required.
Terms of Reference:
A. Business Development (50%)
- Manage the business development (BD) process for Integrity’s US office in line with Integrity’s corporate BD strategy as part of the Directorate Business team and in close consultation with Integrity’s other Directorates, Services, Operations and Corporate.
- Grow and manage a USG and US based donor BD pipeline, in line with global and regional strategies, that enables us to deliver company-wide financial targets on a quarterly basis.
- Track BD forecasts and support company-wide prepositioning including executing capture planning and trips, competitor mapping, consortium selection, brand and messaging, staffing, and financials.
- Serve as proposal manager on assigned bids with tasks including, but not limited to, proposal coordination, design (including technical), competitor analysis, team profiling and commercial development.
- Oversee compliance of all US Office proposal submissions.
- Support the continuing development of Integrity’s cost proposals and strategy.
B. Account management (30%)
- Coordinate and support key client accounts in the US and globally through working closely with Integrity’s teams in London, MENA and other geographies, in line with Integrity’s account management strategy.
- Likewise, coordinate and support key client accounts globally through working closely with the Regional and Country Heads and Country Offices.
- Represent Integrity at early market engagement and other external meetings as required.
C. Consultant Management (10%)
- Identify new consultants with the appropriate technical and management skills to deliver Integrity’s growing portfolio of work. Conduct interviews with shortlisted consultants to assess competencies, build their profile and establish areas of collaboration.
- Identify and recruit team members for key bid and proposal processes, including but not limited to the negotiation of fees, roles, level of effort.
D. Marketing and Communication (5%)
- Support the production of corporate marketing materials, including news items for the Integrity website and social media channels.
- Compile and update relevant track records for use in Business Development and corporate marketing materials.
- Assist in advertising recruitments on online platforms, including LinkedIn and Reliefweb.
E. Corporate Support and Management (5%)
- Oversee, coordinate and quality control the work of Integrity’s Business and Consultant Officers where required.
- Contribute to the strengthening of Integrity’s business development and commercial systems in delivering projects for the U.S. Government.
Your Experience and Qualifications
You are a professional with the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in relevant social sciences field.
- Minimum 5 years experience with Bachelor’s degree or 3 years with Master’s degree, including two years’ experience in bid management and/or writing for USG donors.
- A practical understanding of proposal and bid development processes, including drafting and coordinating inputs.
- Experience leading bids for major US donors, including USAID and the State Department.
- Experience developing or supporting the development of cost proposals.
- Hands on experience building successful consortia and facilitating negotiations.
- A confident and experienced approach to representing organisations with strong brand interests.
- Experience managing staff and coordinating staff and consultants across international teams.
- A developed network of key industry contacts.
- Written and oral fluency in English.
- Willingness and ability to travel at least 10% time.
It is desirable that you also have:
- Experience working in MENA, East and Central Africa, Asia.
- MEL experience in the international development or consultancy sectors.
- Proficiency in an additional language ideally Arabic, French, or Swahili.
