Background

Scope of Work:
Under the overall authority of the Director of the Kabul Office and direct supervision of the Head of Culture Unit, within the framework of UNESCO’s Funds-in Trust Projects financed by the Governments of Japan and Italy,
A. The contractor recruited shall:
Coordinate activities undertaken in cooperation with the Ministry of Information and Culture and the Ministry of Urban Development as well as local governments relating to the implementation of the UNESCO /Japanese FIT project in Bamiyan and the UNESCO/Italian FIT project n Bamiyan including:
Undertaking missions to Bamiyan, Afghanistan as necessary and assisting project implementation;
Coordination of conservation and site development activities, in close cooperation with partner agencies, local government, community, central and local government stakeholders;
Organization of stakeholder meetings and capacity-building workshops as necessary;
Preparation of Interim and final Reports of UNESCO Japanese FIT project for the Bamiyan Phase V project and UNESCO Italian FIT project for Shahr-e Gholghola Phase II project;
Formulate proposals for fundraising initiatives to improve the protection of the endangered heritage sites in Afghanistan with immediate and long term development benefits for the population.
Make substantive contributions to UNESCOs awareness-raising activities through Office publications, website and other public representation at stakeholder meetings, conferences and workshops;
Undertake any other activities and program support as specified by the Chief of Culture Unit and the Head of the UNESCO Kabul Office;
B. The expected deliverables
A monthly report due on the end of every month detailing activities undertaken in fulfilment of this contract (According to and as specified in Articles I and II of the contract) from 1st April 2017 up to 31 December 2017 (with three months probationary period). This will be submitted to the Chief of Culture for approval at the end of each month for contract payment.
Interim reports for the above extra-budgetary projects
Mission reports
Final report at the end of the contract period, summarizing activities completed during the contract and any recommendations for the future.
C. Payment Schedule:
Upon submission of a monthly Report to the Chief of Culture: USD 5000 / Monthly fee
DSA in Kabul /month (USD 121.50/day x number of days)
Note. This is subject to the numbers of the date the contractor stays in Kabul.

Qualification and Experience:
Job Requirements
Academic qualifications: Master’s Degree or higher in archaeology, architecture, museology, anthropology or in the field of social science.
Years of relevant working experience: at least 3-4 years of full-time international-level experience of cultural, anthropological, or archeological projects, preferably in Afghanistan. Project management experience is required.
Competencies
Core: written communication and research skills, accurate recording and reporting skills, ability to collect and analyze data, presentation skills, and good IT skills.
Language requirements: Fluency in English. Knowledge of Dari would be an asset.
Assignment duration: 9 months, renewable, subject to satisfactory performance and project validity with three-month probationary period.
