OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST
The International Bureau of Education (IBE) is a leading UNESCO institute in the field of curriculum, valued for both its specialist knowledge, expertise and networks, and for providing curriculum support services that include up-to-date, evidence-based information and practical support to Member States.
The IBE seeks to recruit a Digital Library Assistant to help manage the post-digitization process of its historical archive and Historical Textbook Collection. Both the Textbook Collection and the IBE Historical Archive 1925-1969, are invaluable research resources which are constantly in demand by education historians and researchers from all over the world. The IBE is creating a digital version of these materials in order to make them accessible globally.
The incumbent, under the overall authority of the IBE Director, and direct supervision of Ms Ruth Creamer, Head of the IBE Documentation Centre, will be responsible for:
- Checking the quality of the digitised textbooks;
- Checking the quality of the digitised archives;
- Checking and correcting textbook records in Invenio, the library system;
- Assisting in the relocation of materials for storage.
- General administrative work and other tasks, as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Qualified librarian.
Work Experience
- Demonstrated experience in archive digitisation project work
- Experience of working with delicate and historical materials
- Knowledge of and experience in working with MARC 21 format.
Skills/Competencies
- Excellent communication, IT and team-working skills and excellent computer skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy over prolonged periods of time.
- Capacity to work effectively in teams and in a multicultural working environment.
Languages
- Excellent command of English and/or French,and good working knowledge of the other language; other working languages (particularly Arabic, Spanish, or Russian) would be an asset.
