Position Location: Colombo, Sri Lanka

Start Date: April 2016

Brief description of programme:
Democracy Reporting International (DRI) is a non-partisan, independent, not-for-profit organisation registered in Berlin. DRI promotes political participation of citizens, accountability of state bodies and the development of democratic institutions world-wide.

Subject to funding, DRI is launching a two-year project aimed at strengthening democratic consolidation in Sri Lanka by informing the reform process with comparative expertise and by generating broad stakeholder participation through the incentive of the Generalised Scheme of Preference (GSP+). DRI will work with policy-makers and civil society.

Duties and responsibilities:
The Project Coordinator works under the supervision of the Team Leader and acts as the focal point for coordinating the operational aspects of all activities, events, publications, and other programmatic outputs of the project. Responsibilities include:• Coordinate and implement the operational aspects of project activities in Sri Lanka, such as events, workshops, trainings and publications;

• Support the Team Leader in outreach to key stake holders including representatives of civil society organisations, parliament and government, and in coordinating briefings and meetings;
• Assist in the coordination of missions of international and national short term experts;
• Manage the contact with and procurement for service providers for events, workshops, training and publications;
• Collaborate with the Team Leader to draft project implementation reports and event reports;
• Provide regular security updates to the Team Leader;

Education & Experience:
• Master’s Degree in human rights, law, or political science, programme management or equivalent;
• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in supporting democracy, human rights and legal reform in transition countries;
• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in programme management and operations;
• Proven strong management, planning, organizational and communications skills (written and oral);
• Profound knowledge of the Sri Lankan context and experience in working with the relevant stakeholders, in particular policy-makers and civil society organisations;
• Experience in budget management and procurement is required;
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (particularly Word, Excel and Powerpoint);
• Fluency in English, both spoken and written is required, fluency in Sinhalese is desirable;
• Ability to work effectively under stressful conditions like heavy workloads and deadlines;

This position is subject to funding. This is a locally recruited position. DRI offers a competitive salary according to donor regulations and incumbent experience.
