OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST
- Background
The NET-MED Youth Project is a three-year project which aims to contribute to the creation of an enabling environment for young women and men to develop their competencies, exercise their rights and meaningfully engage as active citizens, particularly in decision-making relating to political, social, economic, education and cultural policy and planning processes. The networking capacities of youth organizations in the concerned countries will be strengthened, particularly by increasing their interaction with the media and their use of ICT based platforms and by enhancing their economic inclusion and access to the labor market.
This project is being implemented by UNESCO in Jordan and nine others countries across the Western and Eastern Basins of the Mediterranean with funding from the European Union.
The project is an innovative intersectoral response aimed at improving the access and effective participation of youth in developing and implementing national strategies and policies affecting them. It will be coordinated by UNESCO’s Social and Human Sciences Sector in close cooperation with UNESCO’s Sectors for Communication & Information and Education, in close contact with European Union delegations in the participating countries.
II. Duties and requirements
Under the direct supervision of the Head of the UNESCO Office in Amman and the Associate Project Officer of the project “Networks of Mediterranean countries youth, Jordan”, the candidate shall perform the following duties:
• Assist the Project Officer in the implementation of the “Networks of Mediterranean countries youth, Jordan” (hereafter the “project”); in particular, the candidate shall:
• Assist in organizing activities and missions;
• Assist in coordinating and liaising with the project partners, the concerned local authorities, and National and International NGOs and institutions involved in the project;
• Assist in preparing minutes and administrative documents (contracts, procurements, memos, official correspondence, travel documents etc.), as needed;
• Assist to organize, coordinate, and attend workshops, seminars, field visits, and meetings relating to the project as needed;
• Undertake missions and participate in meetings as needed;
• Assist in preparing intermediate narrative reports and project work plans;
• Draft briefings and reports on the project when requested;
• Draft web articles, press releases and other media and communication and activities documentation documents. Carry out any other duties requested by the Head of Office.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION
• University degree in communication, information, or business field.
WORK EXPERIENCE
• Two to four years of relevant professional experience in admin and program support for projects focused on i) youth-related issues (e.g.: youth public policies, skills development and civic engagement), and/or ii) freedom of expression, press freedom and freedom of information-issues (e.g.: media coverage monitoring, media outreach campaigns, promotion of media and information literacy; awareness-raising on freedom of expression, trainings targeting journalists/bloggers, facilitating the development and use of Information and Communication Technologies), and/or iii) technical and vocational education and training (TVET), skills development, transition from school to work and business creation strategies (design, implementation, evaluation). SKILLS/COMPETENCIES
• Good IT and database management skills.

• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Proven ability to work in a multicultural environment.
• Good team spirit.
LANGUAGES• Excellent command and fluency of Arabic and English.

BENEFITS AND ENTITLEMENTS
The candidate shall be offered a Service Contract with a net salary of approximately 10,200 Jordan Dinars per annum. The initial contract, which is for 6 months, is subject of satisfactory service for a probationary period of 3 months, and contingent on the availability of funding.
Other benefits include 2.5 days annual leave per month.
